As Conor and I approached our first holiday weekend since Fionn's birth (Memorial Day doesn't really count since he was BORN that weekend), we wondered how it would differ from past July 4ths where we celebrated with friends, brats, beers, and the great outdoors.
Turns out that this year wasn't too much of a departure from our usual Independence Day activities. There were friends -- check. There were brats -- check. There were definitely beers and the outdoors -- check, check.
Only difference was that this year we had a baby monitor clipped to our clothing at all times. Or a baby on our chest. Oh, and our bedtime was a wee bit earlier. Okay, a lot earlier. But still...it was a great weekend. Who cares if it culminated with a workout at Fionn's Gym-mini? That's still cool, right? Right?
As far as the weekend itinerary, we had some of my college buds and their kids over for a BBQ on Saturday. Although Fionn slept through most of the party, the other two kiddos (lovely Lilly and adorable Gabe) had a wonderful time playing with each other (and the cats!). We can't wait until Fionn is old enough to join in the fun.
Sunday brought more beautiful weather and another wonderful cookout -- at Jon and Jen's house. They cooked up delicious food for Conor and me, and we were able to enjoy a little al fresco dining on their lovely patio.
Fionn was a trooper for most of the night and enjoyed a little quality time with his uncle Jon. Here they are posing in front of the front window. What a cute pair, right?
In other news related to our dear Fionny, we are starting to see some smiles from the little guy. We have not yet caught one on camera though, and they are still pretty infrequent. Fionn is also starting to experiment with his sounds. We're happy to report that we have some "oohs" and some "aahs" from time to time, as well as the occasional "mmm" and "rrr." Titillating news, we know. But these are all baby steps (excuse the pun) toward his first words, so we are delighting in all of these little milestones. As always, we'll keep you posted.
