Big Helpa

Hello, strangers!  So it goes without saying that the last month has been a massive failure in terms of blogging.  Fun times aplenty have occurred (MLK weekend in Colorado for starters)...yet nary a picture was taken.  Why, you ask?  It's hard to say.  I suppose you might say that we were living in the moment too much to haul out the ginormous camera.  Well, that, or we've just been too darn lazy.  Eh.  Probably a little of both.

However, it hasn't been a total loss.  I did manage to catch a cute father-son moment in action last weekend.  But first, the back story.  We have a little saying in our house that if our Fionny was a rapper, his rapper name would be The Big Helpa.  Unloading the dishwasher, doing the laundry, cooking dinner...whatever the task, our Fionny wants to help.

This includes using Dada's sanding machine to prime his new Big Boy Bed for its new coat of blue paint.
Should I tell Dada that he missed a spot? Nah, he's having too much fun.
That's right.  Our Fionn is on the cusp of going AWOL from his crib.  He hasn't quite figured it out, thank goodness, but it's only a matter of time.  Conor and I have both certainly watched on the video monitor as our boy slowly and purposefully hikes up one chubby little leg.  Then the other.  We have also noticed some stacking of pillows and stuffed animals in an attempt to launch himself out of the crib.

But so far...he is still our caged little bird.

That said, Conor and I felt like it was probably time to at least have the Big Boy Bed waiting in the wings for when that special moment of escape finally occurs.

Rewind the tape to last weekend.  We bought a cute used toddler bed from a neighbor.  But it was white, and that was just so NOT going to work with the rest of the furnishings in Fionny's room.  So we decided to sand off the white and repaint it blue.  (BTW, when I say "we" decided, I mean that I decided.  And when I say "we" repainted it, I mean that Conor did all the work.  That's how we roll, folks.)  Pictures will follow shortly once Fionn's new Big Boy Bed is suitably outfitted with its new quilt and sheets.

In the meantime, Fionn has really enjoyed the transformation process of his bed.  However, as you can see from the following photos, our boy was not content to sit on the sidelines.  Oh no.  Not The Big Helpa.

It was pretty adorable to watch.  Also adorable?  Fionn's obsession with his new step stool which was a Christmas gift from his Ganna (my mother).  Fionn feels like a certified Big Kid when he stands on his step stool to wash his hands and brush his teeth.  It is pretty much the cutest.  Our boy is growing up.  Sob, sob.

That's all for now, folks.  I will check back in soon.  For now...sleep awaits.  Night, night.
