Pre-Gaming

Maybe it was like this when we were kids, and I'm just not remembering.  But there seems to be no shortage of costume-wearing opportunities for these kids in the days leading up to Halloween.  It's kind of nice really.  Definitely justifies spending a chunk of change on a costume, that's for sure.  No more bargain bin diving for me when it comes to Halloween.  No, siree.  We got lots of people to impress.

For starters, we got to take Fionn's plush Cookie Monster costume for a trial run last Sunday at our neighborhood Halloween parade.  It was the first year we were able to make it.  Travel and nap schedules had foiled us in the past.  Not this year.  This year we were gamers.

Fionn even brought along some cookies to share with all the spectators.  Now that was a huge hit (considering a repeat performance tonight during trick-or-treating if I can get my act together).

And check out Mr. Too Cool for School riding his scooter to and from the parade.  It took him awhile to get the hang of his scooter, but now he is flying.  Good thing too 'cuz his balance bike is in Transportation Heaven.  Literally fell to pieces a couple of weeks ago.  That bike was loved.

You are probably wondering about the little guy.  Yes, we let him come to the parade too.  We even dressed him up.  But here's the thing.  When your baby's costume is bright white, and your baby is prone to epic blowouts...well, that's when you need to bring out The Backup Costume.

Some of you might remember the old pea in the pod costume.  It was Fionn's circa 2010.  Here's a blast from the past for you.

Who wore it best?  To be honest, they look so darn similar, it's hard to say.  Definitely makes me think that Dex's eyes might lighten up as he gets older because his brother's sure did.  Anyhow, I digress.  The Pea in the Pod.  Always a crowd pleaser.  And Dex seemed to enjoy wearing it more than Fionn who protested pretty heartily the entire time he had it on his body.  We tried to get a cute picture of both boys, but Fionn (per normal) was resistant.  This was Conor's first attempt.  It cracks me up for some reason.  Looks like a bus stop in Fraggle Rock or something.

This is the best we got.  Our kid is not one for picture-posing.  Can't imagine the teenage years.  That's going to be awesome.

Other costume-wearing opportunities included a party last weekend, the spooky train at Cabin John Park, and his classroom at school today.  And then, of course, the Real Dealio tonight.  We are so excited about some trick-or-treating over here at the Crimmins house.  I think Fionn is more excited about people coming to his house and saying "trick-or-treat!" than anything.  Of course, he hasn't been faced with a bag of individually wrapped candies yet.  So we'll see.

As it stands, we are all ready over here.  Candy bowl is filled.  Costumes are hanging in the closets.  And our jack-o-lantern has been carved.  Here's a teaser.  We'll take a real photo of Sir Pumpkin tonight once it gets dark.
