Strawberry Fields For An Hour

Last weekend we took our first road trip as a family of four.  Granted, we didn't go too far.  Just about 2 hours to the Shenandoah Valley.  The reason for the trip?  Well, it all started with my Sewanee girlfriends planning a girl's night away at a lovely little house in the woods.  Although it was pretty clear from the timing of it all that I wouldn't be able to make a night of it, I was determined to make at least a cameo appearance at some point during the weekend.  My wonderful husband gamely agreed that we would just take a road trip as a family.  Maybe I would leave both boys with him, maybe I would take Deaglan with me so he could nurse.  We would make a game time decision.

Since we were traveling all the way to the Shenandoah Valley, we figured we'd get the most out of our trip.  We stopped at Hollins Farm for a little strawberry picking.  It was my virgin strawberry picking experience, and obviously it was the first time for either of our little guys.  Fionn was a natural.  He took right to it.

As for Deaglan...well, I'm not sure he ever laid his sweet little eyes on a strawberry that day.  It was so freaking hot, people.  So freaking hot.  And, as it turns out, there isn't too much shade to be had at a strawberry farm.  Conor could barely contain his snicker when I casually mentioned that Dex and I would sit in the "shade" and watch Conor and Fionn pick strawberries.  Yeah.  Not so much.  As a result, my poor little Dex was once again melting in the Moby wrap where he hardly saw the light of day.  Ah well, we still managed to have a good time.  Our strawberry picking adventure was just a bit...abbreviated, that's all.

We still managed to get quite an impressive haul despite the heat.  Check it out!

Of course, Fionn managed to overturn the whole box on our way to the car, but it was nothing a little rinse under the water faucet couldn't fix.

We were starving after our rigorous harvesting of strawberries, so we found an adorable little tavern just a few miles away and had a delicious lunch.  It was just so perfect.  Sitting there with my three boys, sipping a nice cold Pinot Grigio under an umbrella.  Perfection.

The only thing better was knowing that I was about to cap off a fantastic day with some much-needed Girl Time.  Conor dropped me off for a little over 2 hours and took Fionny away for a little father-son bonding time.  We decided to leave Deaglan with me because he is still nursing quite frequently.  He was a complete angel the entire time, so that was a good decision.  It was beyond wonderful to sit with my best buddies and just chat about everything under the sun.  With more wine in hand, of course.

Meanwhile...

You guessed it!  Conor and Fionn were having quite a time of their own.  Yum.

All in all, it was a fabulous day.  Thanks to Conor for taking one for the team and giving me some relaxing friend time.

Speaking of teams, we are currently waiting in anticipation for the next member of our favorite team, the Crimmins Clan, to be born.  Colin and Meghan are at the hospital right now giving birth to their darling third son.  We are so excited to hear some good news from them soon! Good luck, you guys!!
